Do post tags have an impact on search rankings?

Google’s John Muller provides some answers to this question as reported by Search Engine Land.

Tags were in wide use in previous years as many web administrators and authors would use them to provide linking access to inner web pages with similarly related articles. However, like many good tools, it ended up getting misused and most pages would eventually become a bottomless pit of thin duplicate content.

Muller highlights why it’s a good tool to use but it should be done in an adequate manner. Focus on user experience, not internal linking just for the sake of linking.

EU’s Policies for Google’s Search Screen Model Has Shown No Effect on Search Market Share

On the latest Google Anti-Trust violations, it seems that the solutions put in place for Google to help create a fairer market in the European Union have fallen short of their expectations. In this article, Search Engine Lands highlights’s data on Google’s mobile Search Market.

EU’s auction model only seems to put more of Google’s competitor’s revenues into Google’s pockets. DuckDuckGo’s CEO Gabriel Weinburg stated, “win”: “If you ‘win,’ you’re not really a winner, because you’re giving all of your profits directly to Google, which just seems like it undermines the entire point of a thing that’s supposed to increase competition in the search market,”.
